Breeding cage size

Post by Betty Blair » Thu Oct 24, 2013 1:36 pm

Was wondering on what size breeding cages people are using for finches like Strawberry, Blue Caps, Green Singer. I have 30"X18"X18" cages now. Thinking my new ones should be longer. Only have room for the one 5 1/2' flight cage. Thanks

My Strawberries are in 40x20x20 cages, but I also have used 34x18x18. My Blue-caps have been successful in 34x18x18. I really don't use 30x18x18 any longer, but I think they would be OK. I changed out all my 30x18x18 cages as I found deals on 34x18x18, 38x19x19, and 40x20x20. I have also used the 32x21x35 single HQ flight cages for breeding, but now I use them mostly as all-female or all-male cages or for juveniles.

Thank You Sally. Was looking for 40"x18"x18" or 40"x20"x20". Anyone know where to buy them and approximate prices?

I ordered 4 40"x24"x24" cages with attached floor, 1 1/4" seed tray, 2 - 3" wide feed doors and one middle door 8 -10" with stand with casters/wheels. Wire not coated on mine but they do have PVC and powder coated wire. They will custom make cages to your specifications. I think price seemed reasonable. PM me for price. Very helpful people. The place is Cheek's Custom Cages in Terrill, Texas. contact them at cageworks.com or (972) 563-5099. American made wire so no worries about lead.

If your house is not square, it causes problems. Had to change height of the 4 cages to 22" instead of 24". The 24" cages and stand would hit the ceiling and might not fit in some places. The 22" height should leave room above top cage. Trying to put a door on the bird room was a big project instead of a simple swap-out like we thought. Should have measured all 4 walls.
