can fish tank b convert into a flight cage? Is is possible? thanx

It seems to me with glass on four sides, there would not be enough air circulation, and until the birds got used to the space limitations, there would be some crashing into the glass that could be fatal.

Also, how would you handle cleaning it?

Others may have ideas and experience in trying it, but to me it doesn't sound like a good idea.

Would you be using the "bottom" of the tank as the back of the cage so the top would be the wired front? I don't see why it wouldn't work, there are many cages out there that have solid sides with a wire front.

I like Debbie's idea of turning it on its side, but with a very large tank there may be structural issues - the weight of the glass on what is now the top may be too much without adding some support. Some kind of brace in the middle may solve that problem.

If you make a wood frame with wire and a door to go on the top, which now would be the front, you should have enough support for the glass. It could be a fun project

In Europe, they tend to use box cages rather than the open wire cages that are prevalent in the U.S. Solid top, bottom, and sides, only the front is open. Of course, there the goal is privacy for the birds, which you won't get with a glass aquarium. With an aquarium, the challenge would be how to clean it. I wouldn't buy one to convert, but if you have one already that is not being used, it wouldn't hurt to try it. Some years ago, I remember an article about how to convert clear plastic storage bins into cages, turning the bin on its side and hanging it from a wall, but I have no idea where I saw that.

My husband built all of our cages and aviaries. Every one was solid on all but the top and front, kept all the hulls, feathers and mess in the cage/aviary and not on the floor and walls.

I think this is possible but how big is your fish tank? What size?

I hadn't thought of turning it on it's side. That might work. Probably air would circulate better with an open front than an open top. I knew others would come up with something!

i got a 75 gallons and a 120gallons with stand too....wow sound great but a big projectbi guess..cleaning is gona b a B*%ch....thanx guys
