I have a lot of 1/2 inch square black plastic wire left over from a temp roof I made over a dog kennel, I was thinking of making an aviary but noticed everyone uses galvanised wire but the same size, is it OK to use the plastic black stuff?

Thanks

If it is an indoor aviary, plastic will be fine, but for an outdoor aviary, rats and other predators can easily tear or chew through the plastic, so then you would want to use galvanized metal.

One thing I would check, I had gotten some 1/2" mesh black plastic for a different project, thought about using it for birds, but the edges of the stuff are really sharp and harsh, to the point where I would be afraid that if a bird grabbed onto the mesh it might cut its foot. Something to watch out for.

(hmmm...now wondering if I could use our deadly-hot blow dryer to soften the edges on the stuff and make it usable...)

My indoor aviary has black plastic mesh. No problems.

My indoor aviary in the basement has the black plastic wire. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The black vinyl covered metal was very expensive. I have another flight upstairs that has that.
