More than you ever wanted to know about fluorescent lighting

I know we often talk about the lighting we use in our birdrooms. I've learned a lot over the last couple of years while pursuing what types of fixtures and bulbs I should use for my birds. But a lot of it can be confusing.
I just ran across this article, which explains a lot of the technology, and I found parts of it to be very helpful. (Other parts way too technical, but just pick and choose what you want from the table of contents.)

Interesting! I just skimmed through and bookmarked to read all of it later on. Thank you for sharing this.

That's really what I did, too.
All I wanted to know was whether putting two different kinds of tubes in one fixture would damage one tube or the other. This came up when I tried to google about that.
With all the new laws taking away our incandescent light bulbs, it seems like a good idea to learn the ins and outs of how fluorescents work. I think I may have had a cheap ballast damaging my tubes and making them burn out. But I was running one Vita Lite and one Phillips Daylight together, and I wondered if that was a bad idea.

What great information….I am still reading through it all. I will have to have Hubby read this too as I am sure it will be of great interest for his Engineering mind. Then he can explain it all to me!
