hello
just recieved a pair of gouldian finches of my uncle they have never breed before i think. his had them in a house cage for a year.
also since i got my heart set on painted finches just wondering if they will be fine in the same aviary. whoooooo! im all stoked ive never had these before very colour full.i think one is a normal and the other a yellow :lol:

whats the best time of year to breed .
should i wait for spring,before i buy more birds or should i ,buy now. :?:

the birds will decide when its time to breed, no matter what we want it is up to them lol.
if it was me I would wait until early spring before making any nests available.
as to buying more birds the only considerations are can you afford them, are they from a reputable source ( for example can you get an answer if you were to ask thier age, or diet) and are they passive or aggressive birds - will they suit your aviary. there are lots more things to take into account but I think they are the most basic

Goulds and painteds are a great combination and will get on with no dramas. They both enjoy a simialr environment too which is a bonus when setting up an aviary.
If you buy the painteds now, you can be assured that they will be ready to breed next season, but if you wait until spring and they are a young pair you will have to wait a little longer.
