Newbie - making cage help with paint

Hello

I'm a newbie and wanted to ask about white paint for an aviary I am making. I'm starting with two baby canaries I am due to get in a couple of weeks, from a local breeder, a cock and a hen.

Can anyone give me any advice on painting an aviary? My main concern is toxicity to the birds. I'd like to use white household gloss paint because it is easy to wipe clean.

Would gloss paint present a health risk to the birds? My aviary will be indoors.

Low VOC paint that is marked safe for children should also be safe for birds. Is there a low VOC white glossy paint in the brand you want to use? I agree, ease of cleaning would be at the top of my list.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at the Finch Information Center. Even though it is geared more for finches, much of the information will still be helpful, and we do have other members with canaries who should be able to answer questions for you. Very glad I asked and very happy you took the time to reply, thank you. Been getting my head around how the labelling works here, I am in the United Kingdom.

It seems all the paint I have at home is high VOC, oh dear, well now I know not to use any leftovers on the aviary.
