Which cage?

Post by mightymarshal » Tue Jun 24, 2014 10:28 pm

Looking at new, bigger cages and I think I've narrowed it down to a choice between two. Here are the two:

flight cage vs. double flight cage

So which of those would be a better investment. My thoughts are that the double flight cage is wider by about double, which is obviously beneficial, but with the single flight cage I may be able to buy one now and then buy a second later and use them side by side and find a way to combine then into one larger cage. So it'll be the same width as the double but it will be about 6 inches taller inside height for them to use for about $10 more after shipping plus it'd be more economical. Thoughts?

WOW! At that price I would definitely buy the F040. I have 2 of them, & the rest of my cages are F030. I make mine into "apartments"; so I have one up & one down. They don't need the height anyway.

I ended up buying the F040. The double flight was really tempting but I read a ton of reviews that said assembly was awhile abd it came with multiple damaged parts plus once it was together is was really rickety. I thought it was a Prevue Hendrix so figured it would be a quality cage but at that price I'm wondering if maybe it's a knock off based on the reviews of quality. I'll start with the F040 and if I decide I want it longer or decide to get a second cage I can buy another one for that price.

I buy the A & E Double Flights and usually pay about $200 to $250 for those flights. They are sturdy, but poor instructions to put together. However, they were fairly self explanatory and I've put together three of the double flights now.

Where do you buy yours from, finchmix22? I've found those cages online but they all seem to hover around $300 and $350 plus shipping which is usually around $50

That double flight doesn't look like either an A&E or HQ, the two companies that make decent double flights. The latch is different, the door is larger, the stand looks different. This could be a cheaper knock-off, and you certainly want stability in a larger cage. Prevue is another good name, so that was probably the better value.

Yeah, I went through and double checked all of the listings for the same cage and none of them stated the brand name they are so I can only assume they're cheap knock offs. I have the Prevue Hendryx PP-110B House S that I bought as a transport cage and it's fantastic quality. I don't think I've seen a nicer cage in that price range, or even a price range above it. So I'm hoping that the F040 is just as fantastic. Also hoping I can figure out a way to rig it so I can have two side by side as an open flight. I know people have managed it with other cages and I'm pretty handy at Macgyvering things in a way that works and doesn't look like it's been rigged so fingers crossed. If I do, I'll be sure to post pics and let everyone know how it went.

Anyone know anything about this cage? It looks like it's almost the same size as the F040 (1" shorter length-wise, 2.5" narrower and 6" shorter height-wise) but it's significantly cheaper before shipping (it ends up being $30 cheaper after shipping). They also have the same cage, sans the stand, for around $50 cheaper.

I haven't received the one I ordered yet, but I'm sure I'm going to be really happy with it and I like the way it looks better than the white ones. I'm planning to order a second this week or next. But I thought the white cages might be a nice addition to use when cleaning the cages etc. if anyone has used them and they're any good.

This is the cage I have. After shipping, price comes out to be around $50 each but you have to order in 3s.

I have both of the cages you were asking about and only now did I see the post. I wish I had seen it earlier so I could have told you to get the double flight cage. The instructions are really simple and it took me about 1/2 an hour to put it together only because I had a broken finger at the time on my dominant hand. The F040 is great but since it sits low to the ground, cleaning the bottom is more work than having the double which sits up high. The quality is really good, it's very similar the A&E. We plan on selling our F040 this year and getting one more double flight cage for our birds. But regardless, either cage is great and will make most birds very happy

mightymarshal...if you're going to purchase a 30x18x36, I would go with the seller saulosirds mentioned. I purchased a set of 3 from him and connected 2 together to make an awesome double flight!!! I have the A&E Double flight that finchmix22 mentioned, but I paid $45 for mine on ebay. It was a steal, as 1 canary lived in it for 2 weeks and then the owner got rid of the bird & listed the cage on ebay :) . The quality of the A&E is great...I have also owned 2 of the F040's...I loved them and had no issues with mine. I just prefer white or sandstone colored cages in my bird room.

Ginene - How easy was it to connect the cages together? I am tempted by this but I don't want to end up with a bunch of snapped wires or lopsided cages. (I think I would do all three!)

Also, do you suppose there is any way to fashion bottom grate that slide out while constructing the cage? I think this is similar to a cage that I have with a bottom grate/grille that has to be attached to the rest of the cage for structural integrity. But a slide-out grille would make cleaning so much easier!
