Grasses or plants?

Does anyone have idea about what is good for an outdoor 10' x 3' avairy footprint area? Mono grass or other taller grasses you have had good luck with. I know the birds will pick at it eventually for nesting. Or, is there another smallish plant I could use for varity and color?

You could always go nuts and get this one from an exotic seed supplier...
Giant Miscanthus...Elephant Grass...grows to about 7 feet in two months :D

Sam there are so many different types of grasses and suitable plants available now days you would be better served by going to your local plant nursery and seeing what they have available and then putting a selection into your aviary. always works better if the birds have a variety to choose from

All done, the avairy is complete. I was hoping to transfer my smaller birds(finches) into it today, but the wheather turned wet last night and it's been sprinkling all day. Before I could read what Mickp suggested I did just that. I went to my nursery and talked to the people. I ended up getting a couple types of azalyas(sp) and a creeping something for ground cover. I figure if I keep vegitation growing it well attract bugs for the birds to eat.

It feels good to finish the avairy. I'm curious to see how it will be accepted. All redwood and manzanita perches are good. The automatic water is running. I do have one small thing to do, but it can wait - the roof. Thanks for the suggestion guys. Sam

I've seen people take pictures as their avairy progressed, but not me. I can't believe I didn't to tell you the truth. I wish I had. Now I can tho and it will be the finished pruduct. I just need to learn how to do it. My last child is graduating HS in a few weeks and I should have her help me.
