I'm interested in building my own flight cage for my soon to be finches. I would like to build one like some I've seen on here with the clear plexiglass front and wire sides/back in a wood frame and stand. I am pretty handy, but would love to get some tips on a few areas. Specifically what type of acrylic/plexiglass to use for the front, designs for the tray and stand.

I haven't found any really good resources yet that give some of this info. I did a search here on Finchforum, but didn't come up with much.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

For what it's worth, I've found cage trays to be optional equipment.
I've built cages with trays and I've built cages without trays, and I've come to the conclusion that the tray is just one more thing to clean. I cover the cage bottom with something water resistant during construction (I used vinyl window shades), then I use paper cage liners over that. I pull off one layer of paper whenever it needs to be changed, and occasionally take the shop-vac and vacuum up all the seeds, hulls and feathers that accumulate. Come to think of it, even in my commercial wire cages I don't use the trays - I put the paper on top of the floor grate.
I built my trays out of coro-plast with plastic molding (sold for dropped ceilings) around the edges. Easy-peasy and inexpensive.
