That's a loaded question...depends on the individual birds.Societies and Hecks Grassfinch nearly always...Gouldians rarely...but all birds are different.

I'm trying to make available for those birds who might need it at night, but I want to make a list. I intend to try different species I haven't had and want know who generally needs a nest to sleep in at nghts.

And then there are those odd birds who brake the rules!!!!!!!!

And then there are those birds that see a nest as an invitation to breed!

In my aviary the ones who sleep in a nest are the society, silver bill and the owls. That is all. The gouldians, courdon blues, shaftails, goldbreasted, stars all sleep either in trees or perches. Mostly in the trees.

like poohbear said, there is no set rules with the species.

Although some birds prefer to sleep in nests like societies, owls ect they DO NOT have to have a nest for sleeping. Finches will do fine roosting on perches at night so you don't have to put in nests and like sally said: Nests = babies and sometimes even fighting.
