Is this cage good?

Post by Twinmom0804 » Mon Aug 18, 2014 9:00 pm

Does anyone have this cage?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Prevue-Pet-Pr ... ethod=p13n

And do you like it? How many birds are in it? I am not looking at it for breeder use. I would take out the center divider. Thanks!

I would think it would be good without the divider for a pair of finches. With the divider (I know you said you wouldn't use it) it would be a bit small, I think, because it doesn't allow flight room. For brooding society finches it might be okay......

What are the measurements of this cage? It looks on the smalllish side, just looking at the picture. Finches need to fly.

It looks like a double sided canary breeder. For the price you can get a much better and larger fight cage

Check out Petco flight cages on line. They are relatively inexpensive and fairly decent. One if these white cages, would be ok for a couple of finches. If you want more than two birds, you will need something bigger, or get two cages and make them into one larger cage.

The dimensions are 37 1/2 inches wide by 18 in. deep by 20 1/2 in. tall. I am having so much trouble deciding on a bigger cage. What would be ideal dimensions for four finches?
Thanks a bunch!

You can buy 2 of these Petco Designer White Finch Flight Cages for each pair of your finches. Its size is 30" L X 18" W X 18" H. It is on 30% sale (price $34.99). If you buy 2 of these cages, you would qualify for free shipping as they are offering free shipping on $49 order. I think this special offer is just for today/tonight. It is a very good deal. :D

That cage is very similar to my HQ breeding cages that are 40x20x20. I love them for breeding, but I have only one pair per cage, and I take out the divider. I only use the divider when I want to clean the cage or check nests. For four birds not being bred, that last Prevue cage that Dante referred to is a better choice IMO, while not taking up any more floor space.

I know you have 2 societies and are looking for more finches. This cage is VERY close to the same price and plenty of room to fly. You could probably house 6 finches in this cage. I know this is a very popular cage and people have been very happy with it. I was going to get it myself, and decided on the double flight instead. I think this would be close to 10 square footage of flying space.

Harley.......that is one of the cages I was looking at. That one is 31" long, 18" deep and 53"high.

I was, and still am debating between that one and the one in the original post here. That one is 37" long, 18" deep and 20" tall.

So basically one is longer and the other is taller.

The only problem with the taller one is where to put it in the house. On the stand it would sit on the floor, but then our dog could easily get to it. The longer one I have a long buffet I could put that on and it will sit taller, harder for the dog to get to it.

But will I be able to fit more finches in the taller one??

This is why I am soooooo confused. I just got two more Societies today, so need the decide very soon.

I think the original one you posted that is a 37" cage is great. It has a removeable grate AND tray, which is a huge plus when cleaning cages.

So now you have 4 societies? And are you wanting any others in the future, near or far? If so this is something you need to keep in mind. You don't want to over crowd a cage, although I have heard societies tolerate a cage on the smaller side, but more flying room is always best. Unless, down the road you get yet " another" cage for more birds.
