Artificial plants.

I get my new cage on Friday. Want to put in some artificial plants. Would it be better to use the silk or plastic?

I use the fabric (silk) ones. I find them more attractive, and the birds enjoy playing with them.

I use plastic, just because they are cheaper and easier to clean. So get what you like.

I love the silk ones personally, and have spent a pretty penny on them. When I saw others were putting in the dollar store cheap ones, and they looked just as good on the whole, I decided if I bought more plants, that is probably what I would do.

I use both. I try to get ones that they are less likely to get a leg hung up in. I wasn't sure if I could clean the silk ones, but I went ahead and washed it with bleach, like the others. So far, they have held up. I still prefer the plastic, just because I think they will probably hold up better in the long run.

The silk ones wash up just as well

I use both plastic and silk. They both clean fairly easily. I usually have both on the same cage to provide different textures and depths of color as it makes it look more natural.

Don't forget plastic and silk plants designed for aquariums can work as well as the expensive ones from Hobby Lobby and Michael's. ;)

I pick buy the cheap ones at the dollar store. That way I can just toss and replace with new when they start to get nasty.

I didn't think to look at the Dollar Store. Fake plants are EXPENSIVE! I'll have to check it out.

I use both plastic and silk. Some of my birds like to "chew" on the silk and they end up looking frayed on the edges. Plastic seems to hold up better.

I have had a bad experience with the silk. Like Jen said, they "chew"on the edges. Many times a single thread can keep getting pulled out. Well a female zebra of mine got a thread tangled around her foot and the thread was so thin I didn't evergreen notice it until the swelling started. She stopped using the entire leg even after the thread was removed. I don't want to scare anybody with this story, I have used silk plant after that, just be careful and keep an eye out for look threads.
