As I posted earlier, I broke down and bought a new "double" A&E flight cage. Here it is, all put together! I combined my 2 Gouldian families for a total of 18 birds! Of course, that's way too many for even a cage this size but, for now while most babies have not colored up yet, I am leaving them in there. It is neat to see such a big flock, interacting together and enjoying the extra flight space (I put the bulk of the cages at either end to encourage flying).
For those who don't know, this double cage comes with an optional divider, so I can turn it back into 2 smaller cages for breeding. But for now, it's a piece of the Australian Outback in my sunroom!
I can't wait to see all the babies color up. Most will be orange-headed green-backed. I also have 4 red-headed babies from the second family, 2 of which will be my first blue-backs! (but I color-coded the leg bands so I can tell who is from which family, even before they color up).
