The Great 2014 Bird Rearrangement

Today's the day, I think.....the Great 2014 Bird Rearrangement!

I've been meaning to do this for a couple weeks now. It will involve relocating all but 5 birds (2 gouldians and their 3 babies.)

I'm SO not looking forward to this!
It needs to be done, though. I have finches in cages that are better suited to parakeets; parakeets in cages that aren't suitable for anyone due to small size, and so on and so forth.

I also have a cage with odd poop deposits on the plastic base that just won't come off (despite daily cleanings....honestly not sure how they got there in the first place!) So I'm thinking I'll need to take an orbital sander to get it off! And obviously, you can't do that with them in there.
Any better ideas for getting that poop off? It's the same type of poop deposits you can see on plastic perches. (It's not actual poop; it's some sort of film that's left behind by the poop.)

It's going to make for a bunch of very hissy pissy birds for a few days, since nobody likes being moved. And they'll need to forego free fly for at least a couple days to get settled in the new home (otherwise, they just rearrange themselves into the prior arrangement.)

Sounds like a major job. It took me several hours just to move two cages of birds into one flight because I had to rearrange other things first, like the domino effect. This had to happen before that, and so on. I actually had to plan it out.

The birds I was combining were going into a flight that I had to take Linnies out of. And going from parakeet to finch took some cleaning and rearranging, and then catch and move birds from two other places, then clean those cages out and move juveniles into one of those, etc etc.

So have fun with that, MiaCarter!

KarenB -- Sounds like you've been there, done that!

I may put it off another day, as my husband won't be around today to help scrub up the cages (might as well give them a thorough scrub and disinfect while I've got them all taken apart.)

Mine is a domino effect too. I've got finches in a couple of tall interconnected cages that I'm going to put into 30x18x18s instead; then put the cockatiel in the tall interconnected cages; then put the parakeets in the cockatiel's old cage and so on and so forth down the line.

Gah. It's dizzying to think about.
Anyone in SW Florida bored and looking for something to do? Feel like rearranging some birds and scrubbing/disinfecting some cages for me? LOL

ETA --- Aw, shucks. I'm out of bleach for the disinfecting. I'll have to put it off until tomorrow. Darn.

 MiaCarter you got me laughing. I would help you out if I didn't live so far away in Southern California. You'll have to have all that fun without me. I hate having chores like that 'hanging' over me. I suppose once you get started it won't seem so bad and the reward for you and your flock sounds worthwhile.
Hopefully the stains in the plastic base have not penetrated so deep you sand through completely. Careful.
