Looks very nice! What are the dimensions? Do you have something set up to protect against predators etc.? Feeling very envious here, but also happy for your birds. =D>

Wow! Beautiful! I know you AND your birds are totally enjoying this! What size is it? What is it made of and how did you come across the plan to build it?

Enjoy! Post more pics with your birds! Thanks for sharing.... =D>

Very nice Steve. Some more pics and closeups of your birds. Debora, although we live in darkest Africa, we don't actually have predators in the cities apart from cats and rodents. I see that Steve has a concrete floor in his aviary and won't have to worry too much about dogs digging under and into the aviary. That also stops rats from getting in.

Hi all

Thanks for the nice comments, as Marius said the only real danger to the cage is Cats. I will have to cover it up a bit during the Winter and I have plans for heating lights and a night light. My biggest fear is the cold wind in Winter for my Gouldians, Blue Caps. The cage is 3m x 3m and is home to:
5 x Gouldians
5 x Blue Caps
2 x Black and White Mannikins
4 x Cherry Finches
5 x Red Headed Star Finches with 2 fledglings
4 x African Silverbills
8 x Grass Finches with about 10 fledglings
2 x Diamond Sparrows with 1 fledgling
1 x Canary that teaches them to eat new foods

The base is concrete with a layer of river sand which I sweep once a week.

I will post some pics of the birds as soon as I can and my other cages.

Regards
Steve

Wow, that's awesome! I'd love to have that setup. Where did you buy it? Did you find it online?

Steve - you do have a beautiful aviary! Mine also has a concrete floor (for the same reasons) with sand on it (so easy to keep clean!). But since we have several kinds of birds of prey here, I had to cover more than half of my aviary with green polycarbonate panels. It's a flat roof and the hawks would land on it and panic my birds. Also this creates extra shade which they need in the summer/fall when we periodically get those hot Santa Ana winds from the desert (which usually last two to three days).

Toddmin, isobea

We have a lot of places here that specialise in Aviaries, they can even custom make cages.

The only bird we need to worry about is the Fiscal Shrike, last week a breeder told me that one managed to attract one of his Gouldians and pulled it's head off through the cage wire.
