Heat?
What is your house or where your cages are set at for temp?
Our house is 68-70 all the time. Birds are in living room, away from draft other than people walking by. Small house, so stays pretty even in temp.
They have a day lamp on them for extra sunlight but it is minimal heat that comes off of it.
Sometimes I wonder if they are warm enough.
We are having a cold snap for Portland, temps are in 20's to low 30's outside and heater is running a lot.
Should they have a heat lamp or alternative source of warmth? Lower the day lamp closer to cage?
Or are they ok and I am just being a worrywart?

Re: Heat?
My birds (canaries, finches) stay outside year long and right now it's about 5 degrees at night. I give them plenty of eggfood and veggies to give them loads of extra calories for the cold. They seem to thrive as the males are still singing and the females answer back regularly
Bird species bred up till now : Zebras, Bengalese, Javas, Diamond doves, Canaries.

WOW!
Sheesh, and here I have a heatlamp on my quail because I am worried about them getting cold!
That is awesome! Do you have an outside aviary kristofer?
Do you just start them outside and they become accustomed to it or what?

Re: Heat?
Mine are indoors and heater kicks in if temp goes below 16 celsius (60 F), i keep parrot finches, gouldians and societies and the heat is a luxury were the societies are concerned as when acclimatised they will tolerated even the coldest of winters here in a typical unheated garden shed/avairy.

Re: Heat?
I keep my house about 70 in the day and 65 at night during winter. My bird room is on the northwest corner of the house, older house with not great insulation, so that room may run a bit cooler at night. So far, no problems with it, and I have mostly waxbills, which do not like it much below 50.

Re: Heat?
Good to know Sally. Thanks!
I assume it is just mine adjusting to new house and new temps.
And assume, the ones that I acquired last week were used to a lot warmer temps due to living in a "garden" as referred to in my other post.
All are eating, drinking, flying, being social and busy..... just a little puffed like they are cool.

Re: Heat?
I have a multitude of cages outside in my balcony, as you can see in the video it's about 8 degrees celsius right now and i'm the only one that seem bothered by the cold. Sorry for the autofocus video but im still getting used to manually focusing.
