OMG my bird layed an egg!

Now what? I have a flight with no nests and this morning I found an egg, do I take it out? what do I do? I do not want baby bird! Help anyone

Done panic! My zebra finches lay single eggs out of the nest all the time in the most peculiar places. I have found them on the floor, in seed pots, and balanced on ledges of my avery 6 feet up in the air. Just take the egg away if you don't want them to have babies. I do this when I want them to stop breeding. I let them have a clutch of babies and then take all the boxes and nesting materials out to give them a rest. They will carry on laying the odd egg anywhere they can for a while and then gradually stop. The single eggs don't tend to hatch, they don't seem to sit on the odd egg laid out of a nest, they like to lay them in clutches of 4 or 5 and then sit on them. This is only going by my experience, I hope its of some help.

What sort of birds do you have and what are they in?

Hens are going to lay eggs weather you have a nest or not.
If you don't want them to breed, just toss the eggs when you find them.
After a while they will hopefully stop laying the eggs.

Is Bromley or Bromiley a popular name in England?

Bromley is a fairly common name here but I havn't ever seen it spelt with an "I" before. There is a large town here in England which is quite near London called Bromley so whenever anyone asks me how to spell it I always say its spelt like the place and then they know!

How are your birdy's doing? Any more eggs?

Thanks for the interesting info on Bromley...and when I go to England I will definatly check out Bromley! The birds are doing well, and no there haven't been any more eggs! I'v had birds for many years and today was my very first egg, I was quite shocked! All is well in the aviary.

yes I was up late last night! I have here (at Bromiley Manor

) 1 cockatiel, 2 canaries, 10 finches, 2 cats and 1 dog!

They are the most beautiful cats, what gorgeous eyes the paler colour one has, and the dog is really cute, it looks like a teddy bear!
I would like a cat but we live near to a very busy road and so it wouldn't be fair, nobody around here has cats for that reason.
I have a dog, only a mongrel from a rescue home. Most of my animals have either been given to me from people who no longer want them or they are from rescue homes.
I have 2 rosellas indoors, (given to me by a neighbour who no longer wanted one of them, the other one was bought as a partner for that one!),2 guinea pigs, 2 rabbits,(rescued as they have no ears, the mother got a bit carried away washing them when they were newborn and chewed their ears off), 3 rats, 1 dog, 2 fish, 1 special needs duck,(given to me because she hates water and was agressive towards the persons other ducks),and my avery with finches and diamond doves.
Oh my god, when you write it down it looks alot! My daughter calls me the crazy bird woman.

And a rabbit with no ears? I have a black floppy ear rabbit. I cannot imagine what he would look like with no ears....

It is strange having a duck that doesn't like water. The lady who had her before me had her as soon as she hatched and had her indoors with cats so thats what she thinks she is! I do bring her in and put her in the bath which she will tollerate for about 2 minutes, if you splash about she will climb right up my front in panic! Because she doesn't go in water she doesn't oil her feathers much and so therefore isn't bouyant so if she did go in a pond she would probably sink.

I'm posting a pic of one of the rabbits, I always think he looks a bit like a squirrel. He has no ears and the other one has one ear. Apparently there was a third one in the litter and the mother chewed the tail off that one.

Thanks to Poohbear for the post on how to include photos, I was ages trying to work it out!
