outdoor flight floor

i just build a new outdoor flight 8 foot by 8 foot inclosed and 12 foot by 8 foot with 1/2 inch screen the outside area don't have a roof just screen and the floor is going to be grass on sand since i live in florida
i been reading some sites that claim i should have a concrete floor and cover the roof with some thing sow the wild bird don't contaminate the gouldians since they are very easy to get sick please help if i have to add a roof and get wood in the floor i will want the best for the birds

Wow..that looks freakin amazing!! I also live in Florida and I'm building an 8' by 8' aviary. Where in Florida do you stay??

That looks great! One thing, with that entry door on the outside flight, will you have any way to keep birds from escaping when you open that door? Many people with outside aviaries have a safety catch area added on to any outside doors.

Very nice!!! I have an outdoor aviary and have a natural floor throughout most of it, but I have it all covered with a roof (clear panels to let lots of sunlight in). This spring season we have had a LOT of rain (I'm in SE Texas) so I'm very happy to have it covered. I'm not sure how you are setting up the enclosed part of your aviary but I will tell you about my beginning experience. I kept my birds in the enclosed part of my aviary for several days so they would be very familiar with that section.(nests set up in there also). Now when the weather is inclement they know where to go and use the enclosure as a shelter!
