Changes in aviary roof
The drop/slope of my aviary roof was too little. Heavy rain and the water would pool and cause it to leak. The drop was only 10cm over a 3.6m distance which covers the back half of the aviary. .
Today I increased the fall to 35cm and at same time added 1.8m roofing to the front.
Hopefully problem will be solved.
Pictures before and after.

It looks good Chris.
It looks like you have a whole portion that's inclosed, on the back of the aviary. Is that for winter use for the birds? Or do they have access to it all year around?

There is an open corridor so they have access to the enclosed part all year round.
For them to decide where they feel comfortable.

That is excellent.
Do you need to use any heating during the Winter months, or does it stay warm in there?

lovezebs,
I have 4 infrared bulbs in there but it does not make a difference to the general temperature in an area that big. Only if a bird would sit very close to it will it have any effect.
I think it is more for my own conscience because I feel sorry for them.

Hey Chris.
What's the coldest it gets in your area?
Do you ever lose any birds to the cold weather?

Very nice Christo. We must still speak about whether you have spare strawberries for sale. But I must first get mobile again. (Broken ankle.) Luckily you don't get strong winds during winter like I get here.

Re: Changes in aviary roof
lovezebs Thx, but I don't know if Canadian berries will make it in a mixed aviary here. I mean Canadians are so peaceful, even your police don't have guns. O wait that is England.

Hahaa....
My Berries, can hold their own, chasing away a Shaft Tail, when he gets in their way.
Our Police do too have guns, (I think the Brits have them now too) and our criminals have guns as well ..... It's just us poor law abiding citizens, that have to jump through many hoops to get a gun license. And even with a license, you are not allowed to carry your gun, unless you are on the way to the shooting range. At home, your gun has to be unloaded ans locked up, with the amo, locked up in another location in the house.....
God forbid, that you will actually be able to defend yourself, if someone breaks in and tries to murder you in your bed. Then you'd better have a cast iron frying pan near at hand
and know how to wield it. Or an alert, vicious, protective dog....

Christo, please help out Roxanne. You must know plenty of rich specialists. She is looking for a rich guy that will be able keep her and her birds in style. Plus allow her to add an aviary or 2 per month, with the birds that go with it.
Rox, you can take a joke, I hope. I can't run very fast at the moment.

This year the winter has been mild and we had a minus 8 degrees Celcius. Previously minus 12 was measured by me and even minus 18 in our district.
I do from time to time lose an odd bird but it is usually a bird that is already either sick or very old.
@MariusStegmann
Sorry to hear you are injured. Hope your recovery is quick.
@Rox
Thanks. Yes I must admit - can't wait for the spring and summer and hopefully plenty babies. Hope same on your side.
