Hi there,
I have a quick question, do Gouldians get along all right with canries? I have a very large cage 36x28x48 I think I got that right the tallest dimension is the height. Would this be enough space for them to get along?
The Goulds had been happily sharing with some diamond doves but they often split the cage with the doves being on the floor of the aviary and the finches up top.

You might be better off with just a pair in that size cage especially if you are breeding. A couple pair may work but I'd stick with the same species. I've had gloster canary and gouldians together before but they had plenty of room to get away from each other. 36x28 is more like the size I used for breeding a couple pair of the same species.
good luck

Re: Housing Canaries and Goulds
I would only recommend keeping them together in a really big flight cage (bigger than what you have). Canaries can be obnoxious little birds if they feel like it. I have had a canary hen pluck diamond doves for feathers for her nest and I have a male canary who really dislikes young goulds. Whenever the canary sings, the young male goulds try to 'compete' with him in song. This results in a chase around the aviary every time. BUT my birds are outside in walk-in aviary's, so there is plenty of space for everyone to get away from each other.
If you do want to try it, just make sure you have an extra cage available in case the canary turns evil
