My 1st new cage arrived and was put together yesterday.

My 2nd cage on the way, due next week.

Any suggestions or cautions on what combine of birds should go in which cage?

I was going to put the 3 Female Society together but wanted a 4th to go with them.
However the only Fawn and White available turned out to be a male.
At least he certainly sang yesterday tho no singing today.

Was going to put the Female Zebra and
Male Society together
Female Zebra has laid 2 eggs at bottom of cage this week.no nests in current cage.

But now with a 2nd Male Society, he's so cute - crested fawn and white

I was thinking about instead:

Both Society males in smaller cage.

3 Female Society Plus
Squeaky by troublesome Zebra Female in
Large Double Flight cage.

Squeaky has bad habit of chasing and plucking the society finches.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I DON'T want babies.

Will males be ok together - cage 37-18-18 ?

Females zebra and female societies - 4 total
Cage 64-21-35
Usually 4 is said not to be good - should be 2 or 6?

Would it be good to split female zebra and male society Before moving them to the new cages with new mates?

I would like to give them nests once they are in all female and all male cages.
Any problem with any of them having nests once in new cages?

Society's get along very well together and I don't think the numbers will be a problem, it's the zebra that may be an issue. Whichever way you go I would add greenery and little hidey holes so the society can get away from the zebra if need be.
Personally I would put the society's in the large cage and the zebra in the small one.
If you don't want to breed just toss any eggs you find.

Great cages for those birds, they will have lots of space. I'd watch that little Zebra hen, once they start plucking, it is often difficult to get them to stop. I agree with Debbie, numbers don't matter as much with Societies, they are such social birds.

wow , I love your cages soooo nice. your birds are going to be happy. I agree with debbie though, I would put the society finches in the bigger cage and the zebra in the smaller cage. I love societies finches and if you didn't want any babies you could buy fake eggs to discourage them from laying eggs. - good luck tam

Putting all the society together sounds good.

Problem is what to do then with
Squeaky, female zebra
She will be alone in small cage.
I'm concerned giving her a young zebra as companion she will pick on and bully and pluck.

If there were lots of new zebras to distract her then maybe she would accept a female zebra companion, but since with zebras has to be 2 or 6,
The smaller cage would be too small for 6 since they are so territorial.
And 5 is more than I want to add.

What if I got 1 female zebra for Squeaky but put them all in the big cage?
That would make 5 society and 2 zebra - 7 total
Would that make a good enough distraction for Squeaky to not bully society nor new female zebra?

you can put squeekers cage next the the double flight that has the Society's and they can see each other and not get hurt. If you add a zebra, they may fight still, so I'd try the females together, maybe the zebra hen will be alright with a female friend, if there is plenty of swings, greenery, food stations and waterers too. I'd put two zebra hens together in the smaller cage, if it's at least two feet wide. The Societys can all go together in the larger flight. Good Luck.

So I will try that with placing lots of swings, greenery and food areas since it does have the room to accommodate easily.

I love your cages! I have one squeaky zebra finch too. Meepers isnt a bully. She only gets territorial over nests. They sleep fine without them. I have 8 birds total in 2 cages. My trouble maker is actually a Cordon Bleu hen picking another CB. Oh well they are all different. Your birds will have a lot of fun. I would love a fawn & white crested socie. Someday if life ever slows down again may have a clutch to see what we get. If you don't want babies leave the nests out.

Spreckles-thank you. Can't wait to get my 2nd cage and get it set up. Then will have to figure out how both cages will best work out in my apartment. Can't wait to see the societies flying around in their big cage. Once everything ready will take pictures.
