I do not have an aviary, not sure if it would work, but what about a fishing net that fishermen use ......they have very long handles, someone in the forum may know if it would work.

Hi there,

If you've got trouble in finding a bird catching net you can always look for a quality fishing landing net :-BD

I only use a net to transfer a sick bird from the floor to a hospital cage or to band a baby just out of the nest (easy catch).
For me, a trap is the least stressful way to catch birds in an outdoor aviary. Just withhold the treats for a few hours and then bait the trap with all their favorites. I use a small cage with a long string to drop the trap door from a distance.

In a pinch you could get a swimming pool leaf skimmer. The big bag on it's long pole should do the trick. Just be careful because the fabric is not as soft as the nets sold for aviaries.

I use a butterfly net. The netting is very soft, they come in all different sizes, and you can pick them up at garden centers, children's stores, all kinds of different places. They cost less too.

I also use a butterfly net. They are soft and the long newt allows the bird to slow down alot before reaching the end. Lots less chance of injury.
