Rope perches

Post by Paulie » Mon Sep 22, 2008 6:49 am

Does anyone have rope perches? You know those coloured, braided, malleable ones?

I'm keen to put them in a flight cage, but i'm worried that my bird may possibly get a nail caught in the material? Is that even a possibility? Are rope perches more preferable to the conventional perch?

Please feel free to leave insight

Hey Julie - get in here and post an answer to this - you would be an expert on this. How do you like all your rope perches in your finch aviaries?

Hi there Paulie,

I have rope 'boings' in both of my flight cages and the finches love them.

Just make sure that all the strings are taut before giving it to the finches and if there are any long strings hanging off either end to cut them short so no nails/toes get caught. Also, keeping your finches' nails cut regularly (if needed) will help avoid any accidents.

My finches have yet to pull any of the strings loose like my Kakariki (parakeets) do, but always keep an eye on them.

I wouldn't suggest using only rope perches as natural wood ones will help to keep their nails trim a little and a variety of sizes are best for their little feet.

Thanks Julie, glad you clarified that for me. I think i'll go with one or two of the rope perches, alongside the regular perches inside the cage. When it comes to trimming nails, that's not a problem for me cause i do check them regularly to ensure that they dont grow too long.

cheers for the advice
