Bar gap for canaries

Post by Roberto De Molero » Tue Jun 27, 2017 2:04 pm

I have seen a cage that I particularly like but the gap in-between bars is 1.5 cm. Would this suit a canary and bengalese?
Thank you!!

Out of curiosity I measured some of my cages. These are all nominal 1/2 inch wire spacing but none have a full half inch of air space.

I found the actual air space between the bars to be from 0.42 to 0.47 inches which makes them around 1.1 or 1.2cm. These have worked for canaries and finches.

The extra 3mm [if you are measuring air space] in your cage may not be enough to present problems but I don't know.

Are you looking at a commercial cage or something custom?

Hi Roberto,

I wouldn't go with anything wider than 1.27 cm for Canaries and Bengalese, or other finches.

For smaller Waxbills, you need an even smaller space between the bars.
