Ceramic Heat Emitter

Wanting to get some of the Ceramic Heat Emitter 60w to help keep birds warm,has anyone used these and can you tell me how you like them ?
also where you bought yours,how much did they cost Thanks

I use an electric fan heater. It doesn't get hot, blows warm air and I set the thermostat at 68.

I used 100w and 150w ceramic heat emitters when I had the birds in a metal, uninsulated shed. I had little space heaters, but they weren't sufficient when it went below freezing outside, so I had one emitter per 30x18x36 cage, in one of those round clamp-on reflectors. The birds all gathered under these at night, and stayed warm enough with no problems. I got mine at PetsMart, in the reptile section--they were either $35 or $39 each at the store, but their online store had them for $24, I think it was, so I pricematched. These bulbs are supposed to last a long time.

With your climate, the 60w would probably work. I like the fact that they only emit heat, no light, so the birds weren't kept awake all night.

Last year I used just light bulbs [they lost sleep] this year I want to try some of those,I think the 60 is what i will try thanks for info

I recently bought a ceramic emitter (40W) to heat an area of my indoor aviary at night (when a timer reduces room temperature). It's working out ok so far. I too bought mine in the reptile section of a pet store. The bulb was about $22 CDN (as best I can recall). I didn't purchase the clamping lamp that was recommended for it. As I recall they wanted about $35 CDN for it. Instead, I bought a mountable light receptacle from the hardware store and wired it up with an extension cord plugged into a timer. One thing to consider is to mount the emitter in a spot where the birds cannot come in contact with it. I built a small mesh enclosure around mine. It gets quite hot and you wouldn't want your birds toasting their tootsies. In my view it's a good option if you have small area that provides some warmth without light.
