Custom Indoor Aviary - IKEA hack
My wife and I wanted a decent looking Aviary for our home and we did not like any of the large cages that local stores were offering. So this is what we came up with after looking at various ideas online. Overall it was not difficult, as I already have the tools/skills that were required.
It started with 2 Hemnes Open Wardrobes and 1 canvas picture from IKEA, 4 cage-fronts and 1”x2” fur.
Initially we wanted slotted mesh but that proved to be difficult to find at a reasonable price. So we opted for a plastic 1/2 inch mesh, instead of the galvanized metal. So far it is holding well, with no issues.

Looking very good!
Did something similar with wheels and it's doing fine! With birds for a month now.
Waiting to see yours!

The 2 GSs you see are juveniles from the first clutch. Initially we though got they were both females, but one might turnout to be male.

Wow, that is impressive! I love the look of it, and your birds will love the space.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

Where did you get the cage fronts and the plastic mesh? I think I could make something similar using the much cheaper Ivar parts. I have a bunch of stuff on my list to get from Ikea but I probably won't get any of it until after my next move. I already have too much to do around here.

love this! how much was this to make if you don't mind me asking. I have never seen plastic mesh used, so very curious about the price difference
