As my other posts read, I am planning on purchasing a pair of Zebra Finches in the near future to keep as pets. To eliminate the risk of breeding, I will not be getting an opposite-sex pair. However, I want to ask you all in the Finch Forum community if providing a nest, such as a bamboo nest, for a same-sex pair, whether male or female, would be a viable option. I've heard that same-sex pairs may fight for control of the nest, but I've seen the Zebra Finches at my local pet store cuddle together in a bamboo nest to rest. What are your opinions on this matter? Also, if it is acceptable for me to provide them a nest for sleeping, should I provide nesting materials for them? The nest in the store didn't have any material, but the finches seemed fine.

If you get males then definitely give them a nest and materials and watch their amazing skills. If you get girls then a as long as they are nice to each other then one nest will be fine.

Amazon1610 Yh you can get a nest for sure the males will make a brilliat creation aswell which will be good to watch as you have already been told but I wouldn’t advise it if you get two females because these will just lay eggs and eggs all the time that could cause them to get egg bound

I personally wouldn’t give two males a nest as it’s not exactly needed, but if you want to watch them cuddle up in a nest, then why not? On the other hand definitley don’t give two females a nest as they will honestly lay until they get egg bound and die.

Yeah and even when there isn’t a nest sometimes they lay a whole pile of eggs on the ground. Silly birdies.
