They Sleep in the Nest

I’ve had my two finches for about four weeks now and from day one they always go to sleep in the nest.

I don’t think they are mating yet or anything, they just like to disappear in there for sleeping during the day, for naps, and at night.

I think it’s super cute but kinda funny. Never thought they’d do anything like this.

Where do yours sleep?

My society finches sleep in the nest when they have one, but otherwise sleep piled together on a thin branch near the top of the cage.

I think it's a security thing. Most of my finches like the next boxes and the ficus tree for sleeping but quite a few prefer the privacy of a "sleep station". I have 3 like the one below - mostly all booked up every night.

Pairs sleep together when they have become friends, not necessarily when they mated. If you live in a cold area, it may be for warmth.

Yes my pairs sleep together in the nest usually for abit at about 2 oclock in the afternoon then they have another nap later on then they all rest for the night at 9:30 when the automatic light goes off (some sleep befire the light goes off )

Ocaisionally same sex birds will sit and preen each other and sleep together on a perch or in the fake plants

I guess my birds are just weird, then; they sleep in the most exposed place in the entire cage, even when they have some foliage at the same height that they could hide in. They spend around half the day building a nest and sitting in the leaves, yet they don't like sleeping there for some reason.

Well. Forget the sleeping in the nest part now. After having them for only 26 days my sweet girl started laying eggs. Oh my. We’re up to five so far. Lol

GilbertandSully Yes, nests usually lead to eggs, unless you have all males or all females.
