Keeping 2 zebbie pairs together

So I have been planning for a while now to get 2 new birds into the flock, and I've been planning to get them sometimes after new years, so in a few months.
My question is, is it better to get a male and a female to add to my one male and one female, or would it be wiser to get two females instead. I've crossed out the option to get 2 males for the simple reason that I am pretty sure they'll all end up fighting more likely than not.
The plan is to house them in a large flight cage appropriate for 4 zebra finches to live in, so they won't be running out of space. I'm also not planning on breeding them.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is difficult to keep Zebra finches from breeding unless you keep all males or all females. Unfortunately, 2 pairs of many species won't work, as they tend to spend too much time trying to set up territorial boundaries. Better is 3 pairs or more, though your cage may not support that many.

My cage definitely won't support that many birds. I do let my birds out most of the day, but that won't make up for the space. What about if I added 2 females instead?

OliwiaMoriarti I wouldn’t risk it the female will likely fight over the Male

Hi Oliwia. How did you keep your current pair from breeding?
