Possible aviary?

Well, I'm throwing this idea I just had out to yall.. I have this old non-working 50" projection TV that nobody wants for parts. Had the idea of making it a small aviary instead of throwing it into a landfill. Thinking green.. Know that I would have to cut into the frame to put ventilation in it, top and bottom and remove the electronics, but it has a nice visible (50" diagonal plastic front) that I think may look nice for viewing. Finches on Video. hehe..

I haven't looked inside it. Would have to figure out how to put lighting in and keep the finches from getting up there. Putting in feeding and water, and the major ventilation issues.

would appreciate any suggestions.

I think it sounds like a project but as long as you can get enough ventalation in it, it would be pretty cool to have "bird tv" on all day long, I know my cat would love it :)

Thanks Bonnie..

My main concern is air flow in it too. Think I know how to mitigate that, but It's a new project. guess I should post pics of my progress if anyone is interested..

My felines are not allowed in my bird room yet. Bird safety first.

Still working on my big aviary too..

My brother once used an old console TV stand to make an aquarium. Looked great. :D I like the idea - can you not just replace the top of it with a wire top similar to an reptile cage cover? Would that be enough ventilation?

I actually found an all acrylic finch cage online which had a light and exhaust fan in the top canopy :

Thanks Franny...

I just thought of converting it tonight. Not sure how it will evolve into an aviary yet, but appreciate your suggestions.

trying to locate a pic of it.

haven't found that pic of the old TV. Sorry..

My idea is to carve ventilation on each side (top side and bottom side), rather than on the top. Reserving the top for hanging full spectrum lighting..

Guess ya'll need to see what I'm working with. I'll post the pic of it when I find it..

The acrylic cages also had some holes drilled in the back near the top, for more ventilation I assume, as well as various holes for feeders, waterers (they come with a water buddy type waterer), perches. You'd have to plan it out pretty carefully if you want access to feeders from outside, and to place perches (unless you put a whole "tree" type branch on a sturdy base and placed that in the cage).

I really want to get my main aviary built, so the project with the old projection TV will be delayed. Appreciate all your suggestions.

I think Harriet and Bosley are in the process of providing me some kids.. keeping my fingers crossed. My first.

That will delay a lot of construction with their aviary and all my other projects..

I'll let yall know..
