Finches and iguanas

Post by Tweety » Thu Feb 01, 2007 12:54 am

I just got a pair of zebra finches and the most suitable room for them is the living room. Is it all right to have the finches living across the room (separate cages) from our green iguana? Could there be a problem with this? Could the iguana be hazardous to the birds' health. Also I'm having a hard time finding information on the loud noise factor. How sensitive are the birds to loud noise, music, etc?

Most finches startle easily, so noise can be a problem.

As for the iguana, the only problem I can think of is if he's carrying salmonella and the birds aren't (or vice-versa) one could make the other sick. Hygiene should prevent that, though.

I've had birds on my bedroom and they did fine. I put a blancket over the cage when it was dark and I wanted the light on.
An advantage with these two birds was, that they slept in a nestbox, so they weren't easily disturbed.
They can startle from very hard noise, but normal music has never been a problem with my birds.

Oh, and I wouldn't recommand to put birds at your sleeping room, it's not quiet an ideal situation
