Hi everyone, hope you all had a good Sunday!

Question, I am noticing something that didn't show up in the previous 3 weeks that i have had my pair of Gouldinas..the female seems to be picking apart her nest from the outside, and the male is doing as much on the outside....they have plenty of nesting material in the cage, but, are they trying to tell me:

1) they don't like the nest (it made from straw or something)

2) they need other nesting material?

The nesting material that the female kept taking into the nest was that white cotton looking stuff...she seems to not be picking at it for pieces any more.....

ideas???

I think females will pull out nesting material they don't particularly like - but they will also re-arrange nesting material so that it is more to their liking.
However, I noticed some males are relentless when it comes to fussing with the nest or adding more and more nesting material - especially if the male seems to be fond of material the hen is not.
Then it is sort of like a continuous battle between them to get the nest right.
I would take out the materials that the hen is ejecting from the nest, and only provide the materials she is leaving for the male to add.

Ultimately I find that the most important thing is the hen has to be happy with it, otherwise the efforts will likely not be successful.
Are they young? This could also be the reason.. inexperience - sometimes you just have to be persistent in replacing material.

Thanks Nixity....I was thinking of getting some different nesting material to see if they like it better, just don't want to confuse them....yes, they are young....
