Need suggestions for DIY Aviary!

Hello finch forum! It's been a while since I posted here. Now that fair weather has arrived, I've been plunking my (sparrow) bird's cage out in the backyard when I'm out there. She just seems to love it out there, but I can't leave the cage unattended. I've decided that I'd like to build her a small aviary. I'm not exactly brilliant when it comes to tools and building, but I'm thinking of either gutting an old tv cabinet and making something out of that or just starting from scratch. My dad has a sheet metal shop, so he's going to make me a tray that slides out (easy cleaning!), a nesting box and perhaps something to cover the top.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions of what I should/shouldn't do? What materials are good? Any features that are a must-have? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks
:)

heya Phoebefinch..

I have an old projection TV that I thought about doing the same. When I looked inside, it smelled very strange and I had a difficult time trying to figure out where I would place ventilation. Not sure if there could be any toxic chemicals or fumes left behind, or how to 'gut' the thing to make it work. I would like to hear about your progress.

Here is mine!

Here is a couple of pictures of the aviary I constructed from an old screen door. My birds love it!
