It is time to get seed guards for the cages!

I have stacking cages that are on a stand.

The cage measures:
30 L x 18W which would make the total measurement 96"
From what I understand I would need to order the next size up from that.

I am having trouble finding seed guards for this size of cage.
Any suggestions as to who would sell these online?

I went to Joanne Fabrics and got some krinolen (spelling?).
It catches both the seed hulls and feathers.
The only problem is the mesh somewhat reduces the viewing of the cage.

I'm looking for this too! My cage is the same size and all the store bought seed guards are too small to go around! Looking forward to seeing the replies. My little guys are soooo messy! lol

I think they are both the same thing but in the second url it actually shows it on the cage.

I could make one if I wanted to (I do sew on occasion) but I really dont want to have to do that!

The krinolen (sp?) that I use on my cages is simply attached using big clamping paper clips. I have it wrapped around the cage and from floor to the top. The cage has a solid top and back. My use for it is to catch the molting feathers, so it won't float all around the room.

I buy the clear plastic that comes on rolls in the fabric section of stores (I bought mine at Walmart), and cut it to the size I need. Cheap and easy! I use the heavier stuff along the bottom of the cage in my living room, and the thinner to line the backs of my cages to protect the walls.

hi..I have the same 30 x 18 x 18 cages...don't laugh but I tried the pre made mesh and the plastic wrap around seed protectors but became frustrated because hulls and feathers still came out the bottom edges.

I decided to use what I had used on my parrotlet cages years ago...a fitted white crib sheet. I put the narrow end to the front and bring it underneath and over the back and part of the top. the sheet gives them some privacy and help to keep drafts off them as well as your walls clean.

To get the drawers out you just pull the front down, you can shake out some of the seed debris. I keep plenty on hand to change out if it gets soiled. Also before using wash the sheeting to get rid off any sizing as a precaution.

I also use the crib sheet around the bottom of the large flight cage to keep the mess down. I used to sew the box type seed guards like the hanging cages had years ago, but the fitted crib sheet works well for collecting feathers and seed hulls. It takes away from what you can see going on at the very bottom of the cage but that is ok, some birds like a little privacy when feeding.

Word of warning with the mesh, my mom had an unfortunate incident with a canary getting it's nails caught in the mesh. By the time we discovered it upon returning home the bird was exhausted from trying to free itself.

Also with the crib sheet, if the water spills and there are seeds or pellets in the folds that have gotten wet, you may want to remove the seed debris so you do not get soured or moldy seed collecting in the "seed guard". I wash them in unscented laundry soap with a little bleach.

They are a bit big but also look at the bassinet and playpen fitted sheets. I have them snug in the front and slightly baggy on the back since I am a little concerned about finches landing on the bars and getting stuck. I roll the top a bit. You have to play with it. Target has a 2 pack for 9.99. Haven't checked WalMart yet.

I like them around the bottom of the bigger flight it fits better. I am considering stretching on from the back bottom to the back top to keep the mess in. They are easy off and easy on. It also helps keep the seed contained if there is carpeting in the room you have cages in. Once every 2 weeks or once a month I wash everything depending on if the have soiled them. If they are nesting I try not to move things around and only do a quick cleaning. If I can get a picture to post later I will forward that on another post.

this is the #0 x 18 x18 St. Helena cage, they are on the middle shelf of the 3 shelf stacker

We also put a crib sheet around our 2 owl cages, 30 x 18 x 18. A regular size crib sheet fit great around both cages. The cages are on a large tray table.

We put the cages back to back since they seem to like seeing each other. We thought it helped them settle in. We had them on the stacker but the pairs just sat there. As soon as we put the cages back to back they perked up and seem to be doing better.

Your daughter did a great job, it was very informational. I actually made a copy of it to take with us to the show as a reference.
