Hey gang, hubby is finally tired of having cages all over the place, and feels that we should have just one part of house dedicated to my fids. So today he is going to start building me my new cage and assures me that it will be done by the end of the week. Here is a link to show you the prototype, a few changes have been made to assure that I will have room for all my fids, as well as a divider along the length to seperate pushy species from passive. Plexiglass in the front, cage on the side, and a solid back with tropical posters and some artificial plants to hang the nests and give privacy. Double doors will be placed on the bottom to place all my fid products.
I will post pics as soon as it is done.

LOL! Janine, maybe our hubby are brothers? They both have the same ideas. My new flight is in the works as well, and I will also have a new room for the birds. I kept my foot down though and will be keeping 2 other cages. One is the 4ft for my girls and one is the 30x18 for individual breedings.
Can't wait to see the finished flight. We can let them think it'll help with less cages, LOL!

Shhh, Ok so you figured it out. I will still have my tiny hospital cage, as well as the one that the goulds are presently in. I told him it was in case anyone decided to get territorial.

I didn<t tell him that it was in case I decided to get more.

You know even though Hubbies may not share our enthusiasm about birds, mess, poop, and expense............ they sure do like to please their wives

What a blessing they are. Looking forward to their creations....... may give me some new ideas

Looks great so far

your husband seems to have alot of tools for the job! Is it his trade or is he just a DIY type of person?I guess all you have to do is think of where everything in the cage is going to go

Wow, that was quick! Is he a carpenter by trade, or is it just a hobby for him? Yep, he is definitely a keeper.

Now to answer some questions. This is not hubby's trade, he is actually at the time being a student studying to be an electro-mecanic. The last 2 jobs that he had were in manufacturing shops that closed for economic reasons. First was Bauer/Nike (they closed after he worked there for 8 years after a buy out and the decion to close the Canadian shops.) The second was Corbeil buses, they manufactured school buses (went belly up with the American dollar 2 years ago).
He is however, a very serious DIY kind of guy. We are not financially able to pay carpenters or mecanics so he learned how to fix our cars(ok it is true that his dad was a mecanic for 2 years.) And when we bought our house the basement was unfinished and the kitchen due for a severe renovation. He finished the basement (2 bedrooms and a living room for the boys). Then the kitchen he built himself all the cabinets and the countertops. Will show pics once the cage is finished and I do some serious housekeeping.
Ok, so this is getting off topic, here's the stage at which the cage is at now. Almost ready for it's first occupants.
Finally decided not to stain it just a clear varnish - keep it natural.
