My New Aviary

Post by isabird » Tue Jul 21, 2009 6:39 pm

I recently joined the finch forum and really want to share my new aviary with all of you. I finished building it 2 months ago and have 2 pairs of birds in it now that are doing great. I plan to add my other pair of Lady Gouldians next week, as they are finishing up their molt.

I raised birds when I was younger. My family had a very large mixed aviary. Now that I am married and have a young daughter I thought it would be fun to have a small aviary again. This one is 7X4 feet and 6 feet tall.

It was a lot of work to build but worth the effort. I love watching my birds in a larger space :D

I love the set up. Also like that you have the keets with the gouldians. I too have these 2 species and the keets are so sweet. Most say don't mix hookbills with finches but there are a few that are so peaceful and the scarlets are the most beaytiful :D
Question, What is the brown closed in part? Storage? Shelter?

Great looking set-up. :D I wish that I could have an outdoor aviary. But with snow and cold and raccoons and cats and dogs and bears  ......ok, I know you got my drift.

Beautiful! =D>

I have budgies with my finches in the aviary and all get along very well. (I do have my parrotlets in a separate flight cage though.) I agree, some hookbills work fine with finches as long as they have plenty of room.
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

It is a shelter for the birds. I will try to get a photo of it later. In it are 3 Gouldian nest boxes, the keets next box, and rows or perches. I plan to add a heating source during the winter.

Yes, the keets are so sweat I love them. The breeder I got them from also breeds Gouldians in the same aviary and there is a vet in my area who breeds both species together as well.
