Cage cover question

Can I cover my zebra finches cage at night? We have 2 cats that have been sitting on the cages at night.

I didn't know they were doing that!! They never go near the cages when I'm awake! I just thought that even having the top part covered might help because the birds stay up at the top and if the cats can't really see them good they might lose interest. And here I thought things were working out with the cats not bothering the bird cage and all....

Totally unfair to the birds...sorry.But you should keep them apart if this is happening

agree with Paul on this.
you need to make it so that the cats cannot scare the birds at all.
if you plan to keep the cage in the same place it would have to be a cover that the cats cannot move at all. probably easier to move the bird cage to a room where the cats have no access during the night

I have to agree with this also.
Soon the cats won't just be staring, but trying to figure a way to ge them out of these. And that would not be a pretty sight. We have heard some horror stories of this on the forum.

Imagine the stress on the birds knowing the cats are up there at night. I would think your Zebs would not rest well at night and could end up getting ill. Take the other's advice it would be for the best.

I can only echo what everyone else has said here already. Cats, (and my dogs) and birds just do not mix.

I know for sure how I would solve the problem.
get rid of the cats and get more finches instead

Keep the cats, keep the zebras, keep them seperated.
Keep your mind open about the cat and zebra haters

I dont hate cats or zebras. the first I wish lived elsewhere (belongs to she who must be obeyed) while the second look great in other peoples cage & aviaries
