Just wondering what you use for night lights on your cages/aviaries/bird rooms and where do you place them?
I have an indoor aviary that's 10'w x 3'd x 7'h. Until now I've just been using a low watt lamp in the room outside the cage.
I was thinking of using lighted pine garland(christmas), but debating where to put it...ie; top/front, top/rear, in one corner,etc.
Let me know your thoughts and some pics,if you would.

Nice idea but I would imagine the garland will get pooped on... a lot! But great idea!

I use tiny Christmas lights strung up behind my cages and regular plug in night lights in the parrots area.

I was thinking of stringing it across the top(outside) of the aviary.
That way, it would blend in with the greens in the cage and still give me the night light,without getting dirty or having the wires in the cage. Also, the garland disguises the wires/lights, for "asthetics."
I guess I'm really asking if they should go in the front or back?

Here is an old pic of the aviary,after I first built it. It now has natural tree branches and more plants/vines.As soon as I get a new battery/charger for my camera,I'll post new pics.



So they would either go behind the brown board at the top/front(where you wouldn't see them at all)
or across the back/top where they would just blend with the other greens.

I string up 1 set of 50 red christmas lights and just have it pinned to the front of all the cages.

I run daylight lamps on timer 1 and christmas lights on timer 2. Timer 2 is set to overlap with timer 1 for 30 minutes on both ends of the day. Its funny because the birds are now trained at 715pm when the christmas lights turn on, they all stop what they are doing and head directly to their sleeping locations. By 730 when the main lights turn off.. they are all mostly fast asleep.

I have never used night lights, but I also never have night frights unless they are self induced from catching birds before shows at night (easiest time to catch them :\)

My birds in their own closed off room with the blinds open continuously, so they also get moon light a good deal of the time.
Even when I just use a screen door to close off the room to the cats (in the winter time, otherwise the room stays colder than the rest of the house), they don't have night terrors at all..

But I would think the christmas lights would be a good idea (and festive!)

This is probably the route I would go if I ever decided I needed them

I would put in the front so you can't see at all

Just thought I'd post a few pics of my avairy...
I ended up putting the lighted garland on top of the aviary in the back.
The greens blend in with what's inside and the lights are beautiful at night.

Looks terrific from here. As long as there is enough light getting through the garland so they can find a perch during the night - then it's all perfect! Really looks good!

Very nice in the dark

I use a string of blue LED mini lights from Target. I figured that blue was less intense than warm white. But it is actually still very bright, at least to my eyes.
I have it draped up the side of the stack of cages, over the top cage, and down the other side. Because the LED lights are actually directional, on several of the cages I stick the lights into the cage.

I went out and got some indoor orange coloured halloween lights, I will try and get a pic tonight. Gives it a very serene colour and not too bright.

i use a regular baby night light with light/dark sensor ( 5 watt ) and it works very good , when regular lights go off , the little light goes/is on .

I got some of those too. I really like them.

I have two nightlights (one on the left of the shelving unit, one to the right) plus one across the room and in the kitchen we have a huge great room (kitchen/family room combo).

I tried the mini string of Christmas lights but it was to bright and all the birds got up and played instead of going to sleep.

I place my lights on the end of the aviary where they don't perch at night, that way it gives them just enough light to see where they are going, but not enough to get them excited.
