Flooring materials for over concrete: What works outdoors?

Hi
My new aviary is getting closer... Have decided to definitely go with the concrete slab, after much resistance. Question is, what to lay over that?
I don't like the idea of bare concrete (which I find ugly and lacking homeliness) but what is practical, cleaning-wise, to use as a substrate to lay over it? I'd like to landscape a little, maybe a path and some plants in big pots, but what material could go on the remainder of the floor? I'm even considering a layer of organic soil from the landscape supplier... or pebbles... or is there anything that's made for this purpose???
FYI, the aviary is outdoors and will have an anti-vermin 'skirt' all around the bottom, made of metal.
