Re: Rope Swings
Liz, have you ever tried the sisal? My gray pretty much left it alone unless bored, he would pick at the end near the cap.

Re: Rope Swings
I have to agree, it depends on the individual birds personality and destructiveness. None of my parrots chew on their rope perches (thankfully) but I still need to keep an eye on them - one never knows when they might get the idea to start.CandoAviary wrote: Liz,
My orange winged amazon would shred these rope swings in a heartbeat but had an umbrella cockatoo at the pet store that never nibbled on them at all. I guess it just all depends on the birds and how destuctive they are.

Re: Rope Swings
The material is like a raw boat rope. It frays when they tear at it so I used to trim it also.

Re: Rope Swings
I had an incident with my very first bird and a rope perch. I went to school one day only to come home to find blood all over her cage because she had chewed the perch and got her foot caught. She then proceeded to chew off her foot until she got free then continued chewing her leg. When I got home I took her out and bandaged what was left of her leg to stop her from chewing what was left of it off. She survived and thrived with her one good leg and her "stump" but needless to say it was quite a horrifying experience.
Owls, Goulds, European Goldfinch, Red Belly Siskins and Zebs... For now...

Re: Rope Swings
I have just tooken my rope swing out and replaced with a plastic one. They seem to like the plastic one better anyways, it has mirrors on the sides. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Rope Swings
I'm sorry to hear of the accident... must of been awful to find her like that. Glad you were able to save her...I have several one leged birds that were results from accidents. They are living a good life with just one leg. All we can do is learn from these things.
