New Bird Facilities ;)

Well - we bit the bullet and relocated.. no longer in New Jersey, we are now in the great state of Maryland and I gotta say it did not give us a warm welcome. It has been raining ever since we moved down. I think today was the first day it didn't rain, but it was still over cast all day :(

Anyhow.. we were blessed with a LOT more room in the new place.. so I have expanded

The birds are in the finished portion of the basement. I thought it would be too cold, but since it is finished and attached the rest of the HVAC it stays decently warm down there, especially since the door leading to the basement stays closed.

Sucks that the fireplace is there - obviously won't be using it!!

The two 6' flights, which need cleaning, but I have been VERY busy :?
Image

Seven breeding cages - 6 in the stands and the single 36" breeder cage on the bottom.
There are no birds in any except the top left which has my societies that are fostering Renfro and Lily's four babies which they abandoned during the move.
Image

The SURPRISE cage - I snatched up two pair of BC Cordon Bleus at the Delaware mart last Saturday. They are parent raised, closed banded and just under a year old. This is where they are housed.
Image
The four of them (fourth is in the background clinging to the cage) - didn't want to try to photobox them at this point and these don't capture their true beauty really.

Another shot inside the flight:

The last set of three breeding cages.. to the left is critter's cage - the 30x18x36 on a stand.

Likewise from this corner of the world - glad most everything went well and that you have Soc's to take over for the pair that abandoned. What species are they and how many chicks/eggs?

Did the move take very long? The birdroom looks marvelous! =D>

Good luck in your new place. Glad the move went well. Your CB are very pretty, I love the cage setup.

When you get settled post some pictures of Critter, bet she has grown.

Settle in and enjoy exploring your new home and town.

Just Goulds.. up until I got the Cordon's last weekend that is the only species I breed :)

There are four babies that the societies took over, other than that the only babies I had were the five I am hand feeding, all others had been weaned already :)

Lots and Lots of space now :!:

Most of the cages look empty  Now you will have plenty of room to keep more or work with other species 8)

What is the floor - carpet? Are you getting any drafts from the fireplace? Are there other windows in the room besides the one above the CB cage? I wonder if you will be able to breed two pairs of the CB's in the same cage?

Those cages are wonderfully spacious. The birds must love them! I am glad you branched out to some other species, do you have any others in mind? If you are planning on breeding the bleus I would love to hear how that goes. They are very beautiful birds. I'm partial to blue caps since the males have the most blue of all three subspecies.

Well I have separated out the two pairs of Cordon's with Misty's advice - I did start to notice some aggression after one of the males started courting, so I kept one pair in their original flight, and put another pair in the 38x20x20 cage that is just to the left lower to the ground..
I totally decked it out last night..
Image

So they are in the cage in front of the (never used, obviously) fireplace, and to the right is the flight with the other pair.
Image

I set up five pairs of Gouldians, and they are in these cages along with the societies fostering the four Gouldian chicks.
Image

There are four here, the fourth (another normal) is hiding under his yellow siblings ;)

The hand feds today - testing out the herb salad :)

And critter - sorry about the quality, I'll have to get a better photo of her tonight when I'm not in the basement..

That Critter sure is cute! :) Hope the move hasn't upset any of the birds too much.
Must have been very stressful for the two of you as well. I know, I moved half way
a cross the country with 2 dogs and a cat, and stayed in a friend's basement/then a
hotel... very stressful for the animals. Mind you once we moved to a hotel the dogs
seemed much happier. Guess they liked the accommodations better!
