I am asking for some opinions from those of you with more experience than I have.
My HQ double flight cage arrived and I assembled it last Wednesday. My plan was to put the two females on one side and the two males on the other in hopes they would get use to each other. I thought later I would try to remove the divider.
Well, I put the two females in the one side and that put them closer to the cage my males are in. It didn't take long before my one male started chasing the other around in their cage and it didn't stop until I put a sheet over the side and blocked their view of the girls. I than decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to put the males next to the females. Instead I put my male/female pair in the other side. Each pair does not seem affected by the other pair. There is no tension it seems. The male doesn't seem to pay any attention to the other two hens.
It's only been a few days but do you think it might be okay to take the divider out and see how these four get along together? The days are shorter and the m/f couple don't seem to be trying to breed. Finally no more eggs.
Just wondered what you all thought about trying this so soon after putting them next to each other.

They are all four zebra's and that would be 1 male and three females in a cage that is 6o" long, 24" deep and 35" tall. While they show no interest in each other now, I thought by removing the divider I might stir up what is now a peaceful existence.ac12 wrote:What kind of finch?

If you want them to breed, you should remove the divider, but when the male and one female pair up, you will have to remove the other two, or they'll fight.

Re: Should I try Removing the Divider
Thanks, I think I will leave well enough alone. There is harmony in the bird room right now so I guess I will just enjoy it for awhile instead of worrying about opening the new cage to give the finch more length. I sure don't know how you all do it with multiple finch. Everytime I try adding more finch I end up having to seperate them and at this point I can hardly move around in my bird room.
Thanks again for your help.
