I could have sworn I asked this question before, but can't find the post.
I've noticed some of you have plants in your cages. Can anyone tell me what kind of plants can or should go in a cage?

Begonias are a safe bet. And they come in many sizes, shapes, forms, and colors; flowering and non.

Silk or plastic plants work best in cages. If you try placing a real potted plant in the cage the birds will destroy it in no time. Even in large aviaries it is difficult to keep plants alive.

Some people have had success placing a potted vine on top of the cage and allowing it to drape down over the cage. That way the birds have limited access to it.

I use the silk and plastic plants in my cages. EASY to clean in warm soapy water. The Michael's craft stores have garlands which are nice to drape and I've also gotten silk/plastic plants from JoAnn Fabric and even WalMart.

I look for those that are soft to touch and those that have no sharp edges.

I use silk and plastic plants, too, get them from whoever has them on sale. When you see how quickly they can get nasty looking, you will appreciate how easy they are to clean! I tried real plants, and they were destroyed in a matter of days and made quite a mess (this is in cages, not an aviary). I also tried potted herbs, thinking it would be good for them, but same story, they just don't last long enough. If I ever have an aviary, I would like to try a few potted plants, like a schefflera, that I could rotate in and out.

I have dracaena varieties and zebra grass set around the outside of the cage and my birds love it. They get to play with it a little without making too much of a mess. I also change them around a bit to keep the plants from getting picked apart too much.

I also use artificial plants. I have never tried putting live plants in the cage but I can imagine they wouldn't last long. I have seen my cordon bleu and shaft tails tugging and pulling at the fake plants.

I too use artificial plants in my fids' cage. I bought a great vine with tons of pretty leaves at a pet store in their reptile section. Plants that are meant for terrariums, so I know they can be easily cleaned without being damaged.

They may not be the cheapest but v. good quality.
