New Flight/Aviary - Completed!!

FINALLY! The new aviary was completed this past weekend with me adding perches etc.
I have decided I'll get more inexpensive towels to line the bottom and continue using the paper over top and just roll that up and replace as needed.
Just the paper there tends to blow and move around a lot causing seeds and hulls to go underneath the paper where it's harder to clean.
I also need to get some more garlands and fake plants as decorations, but I spent all day yesterday going back and forth between Home Depot and Lowes trying to sort out the lighting issue.
The birds are loving it
For the time being it just has the juveniles (both sexes) in it.
I ended up going with a 48" shop light balast with two GE Sunshine bulbs.
I liked it so much I also updated the lighting on the two 6' flights to mirror the lighting I got for the aviary, only in those I chose the Daylight bulbs and now I wish I had gotten the Daylight for the aviary, too, but the color difference is so subtle I'm dealing with it for now
I love that it puts out a lot more light for the birds in the flight cages than the standard strip lights I used before did

You guys did a wonderful job
I noticed there are vents above the new flight cage - wouldn't that be a "draft" during the warmer months with the A/C running? Or do you close the vents off?
Also why do you always have something heavy on top of the dehumidifier?

Looks great Tiffany! I had several just like that in my basement years ago. I used rolled vinyl flooring for the floor, it was really easy to scrub clean when needed.
Best of luck

What a fantastic aviary....excellent job! I really enjoy see photos of everybody's creations. I see behind the aviary in the second photo your birds have a nice view of your bird trophies.

This was my original plan but I wanted to avoid having to scrub because I already have enough back/neck probs as it is so if we put the vinyl flooring down I had just planned to cover it with something like towels or paper anyway
So I decided not to do the vinyl flooring but now I have to keep the wood clean..

I use towels now on the bottom of my aviary and I love, love , love it. I haven't found anything better than that.
I take them up, turn them over each day and wash. I always have an extra set to put down.
I place them only under "poop" areas and just sweep the rest. I am not sure yet what I am going to do in the new aviary....... probably towels also. That newspaper was getting to be too much.

I went ahead with the towels and put them down last night but still put the paper down over them
The netting is called "Poultry Netting" and I've only found it at Home Depot.
The holes are 3/4" in diameter.. never had a problem with it

You people with basements are so lucky--great place to put aviaries and keep the birds warm and safe for the winter, too. I love the idea of using towels on the floor, not nearly so nasty as newspaper. I guess the 3/4" netting works for Gouldians, but is that what you have on your Cordon Bleu flights, too?
