you have to keep rinsing the seed through every day until the water runs clear if you leave it mould will grow!

if you saw my photo you would not make that statement!

as i siad though you have to keep rinsing the stuff other wise it soon forms a nice fuzz and the smell is akin to the yeast that you use for baking..mine is very small but it is quite sufficient for the amount of birds i have...i sppon out the amount i want then rinse the stuff through again to keep it fresh..just make sure you rinse it till the water is clear and then you will get rid of the bacteria

I found a site that sells 'soak seed' and they say that the seed should have the water taken out after six hours but -" NOT TO RINSE - Let stay in same jar for additional 18 hours. Then wash the seed in a large coffee strainer under running water. Wash thoroughly, shake off excess water and feed ".
