I wouldn't risk it.
Most lawn seed has a growth induser
or some other chemicals sprayed on.
Could poisen your birds, not worth the risk!!

I agree...this is not a good idea, could prove deadly.

Good, that's what we are here for.
Any seed that is used for growing plants, will have some chemicals on them.

What you probably want is grass seed which is good for goldfinches. How or where to get it is the hard part.I seen this seed pack that i would like to buy and looks complete but Australia dont get it.Take a look

Sometime back I remember someone telling about using grass seed, so I found some that was not treated, and my birds really liked it. I also planted some in little pots and let it grow, like the cat grass they sell in the petshops. However, the next time I went to get some grass seed, all of it was treated. I think you would have to find an organic nursery to get untreated grass seed.

Go to a farm supply store. You can buy annual rye grass reasonably priced and without the germicides .50 cents a lb

Cool ty for the advice! I already feed my goldfinchs a wild seed and herb mix with there other seeds which they seem to like.
Plus i been feeding them dadilion fluffys with the seeds. which is now all over the house. *will end up with dandilions growing out the ceiling now*! But they seems to like them
