Re: What softfood make??
Sorry, for not checking this thread.
I put the shelled egg whole into the fridge for a few hours to overnight in a bowl and wrapped in a paper towel. The paper towel and the fridge absorb some of the moisture from the egg.
Then I cut the eggs in half then each half into quarters, then I put it into a mini-food processor. I cut the eggs because my mini-food processor does a better job if the eggs is not whole. Large pieces of anything create an out of balance load. About 5 or 6, 2 second pulses. I just eyeball when to stop based on how chopped up the eggs look.
I put it in a dish in a thin layer. It is usually eaten clean in a couple hours. But in a thin layer, any not eaten will dry out. I don't remove the morning dishes until dinner time.

Sounds easy enough and thank you! Do you freeze the rest and serve them small portions everyday? I will try this tonight and put it in tomorrow morning and see how it goes. They have miracle meal in there - which I also mix in a little F-Vite to.

Re: What softfood make??
Just catching up on this thread - actually I never peel my eggs. I put them in the fridge overnight and that seems to set them nicely before I toss them in the food processor for about 5 seconds (shell included).BigBear0007 wrote:I learned the trick to drying out the egg. I think it was Liz that told me to stick the peeled eggs in the fridge, the fridge will draw out the excess moisture in the egg, so it isn't sticky.
I also mix Orlux eggfood and soaked seed with my hardboiled eggs. I have used Quicko (which is cheaper) but I prefer the Orlux due to the fish and insects I have seen in it.

That's what I have been doing but my Goulds don't seem to care for it just the shell but, then again, I haven't put it in the processor. I will try that tonight and see how things go tomorrow.L in Ontario wrote:actually I never peel my eggs. Do you mix some dry eggfood and soaked seed in with it? Along with Cod Liver Oil and Wheat Germ Oil - that's it. Every single one of my finches and canaries gobble this stuff up like it's their last meal.Foosa101 wrote:That's what I have been doing but my Goulds don't seem to care for it just the shell but, then again, I haven't put it in the processor. No, I haven't just the egg food a lone I will have to try that. Any certain recipe you use? I only have two Goulds that have 6 eggs at the moment - expected hatch date Aug. 2nd

Re: What softfood make??
I put my chopped up egg into a small plastic jar, and keep the jar in the fridge. It will last about 4 days before it starts to get sticky, if I have not used it all up by then, I toss it and make a new batch.
How much I use depends on what the breeding/molting situation is at the time. Some times I run out before 4 days, other times I have left over at 4 days.
