Hello!
I am about a month in of having my RCCBs and everything is going swimmingly. They fligh around a very good bit and basically sit and sunbathe (there is shade available).
Anyway, as I have been trying with the fresh and live foods I have definately found a winner with the mealworms. I've read that mealworms are favored and so I wasn't surprised.
What I am surprised about now is how many they are eating! I have had to start to put more and more mealworms on their variety plate because they are gone in seconds and then the birds end up chasing each other for the worm. I thought providing more worms would calm this eager feasting, and it has...but man! They're eating a ton of mealworms everyday.
Is that safe and good for their over all health????

Re: RCCBs and Mealworms
Mine eat mealworms too. I have a pair of BCCB's along with a pair of Owls in the aviary. Those 4 will eat 20 mealworms a day.
They've gotten accustomed to my wife or I feeding them, so when they see us near the aviary, they'll go to the floor and start searching for worms before we've put any in.
Because we've got societies that love the mealies too, I just started a meal worm farm. Google and Youtube for how to do that. It's very simple.
Good luck.

Re: RCCBs and Mealworms
thanks for the feedback. i'm currently just purchasing small mealworms and putting them in oatmeal with a strawberry. They're gone soon enough for no cyclical action to be happening.
I did see somewhere also to not feed to many mealworms b/c they're fattening.
While I do have 3 pair of RCCBs together I'm not providing any bedding right now for their nests (which are unused) and don't plan to anytime soon. They're doing fine like they are I think. (???)
