Does anyone have bird bread recipes to share? I've seen posts that say you can just mix eggs with jiffy mix and bake but at what ratio(s)?
I'd love to hear what everyone uses in their recipes.
Thanks!!

Go to this site for complete directions on the bird bread I use:
www.finchaviary.com. My birds love this, it doesn't spoil like fresh eggs, and it is very high in protein, with all those eggs. My breeding birds get some kind of egg food every day, but non-breeders only get egg food as a once-weekly treat. I should add that if they are molting, they get more egg food. One thing that is especially good about this recipe, besides not having to worry about it spoiling, is that it freezes so well. It makes a lot, if you have only a few birds, so it is nice to have it stocked in the freezer.

Thank you for posting this link Sally. I've thought of making bird bread and having it on hand for the pet sitter while on vacation.

I use that recipe too and my Finches love it. I have been "hiding" some colored pellets in there since they don't eat them out of the dish.
That is what I like about birdie bread...you can hide almost anything in there!

May I ask what type of pellets? I put chunks of the bread in the food processor and turned it into bread crumbs. Then they ate it up!

That's what I do, too. I used to cut the bread in squares and freeze the squares, then when I thawed out a square, I would put it in my mini chopper. I finally got smart, and now once the bread has cooled, I chop it all up in my food processor, then put portions in ziplock baggies for the freezer. I was getting the mini chopper out every day and then having to wash it every day. This way, I can do all the baking and chopping at one time. Then I can use the bread crumbs as is, or add whatever I want to it.

Ha! I froze the wedges of bread. I went back and forth yesterday trying to decide which would be the best way to keep the crumbs moist. Thank you for adding that bit about doing it all at once!

I will look for these pellets, although it seems as if my brood already eats gourmet all day. Have you heard of "Roudybush crumbles"? Oh my goodness, they love those crumbles! I was putting a small amount in their seed dish. Then decided to put them in a choice cup and it was if they had never seen them before. Very funny, joyous little creatures! They like their food like the rest of us

ladylovesfinch....I have heard of Roudybush....but can't remember if they are in my local petstore...I will check next time I get there.
It was bad enough my birds didn't eat the rainbow pellets but Hubby hated the fruity smell they put out...and I mean FRUITY...whew!
