pet grass

Post by miked » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:59 am

I was standing in line at the local pet store (LPS) and saw it. Pet grass, 4$ give or take and my zebra finches love it. I just spray it down once a day when i spray my finches.
My 4 zebras have fun pulling the grass out, eating it and trying to steal a blade of grass from each other.

Say....what a good idea! I have seen that grass at my LPS and never thought of the Finches liking that stuff.

Nothing like giving our Finches a nice "lawn"...but I guess mine have a "swimming pool" so why not a lawn too!

Love your Avatar by the way. :D

I often give my finches pet grass and they just LOVE it. They eat some, play with some, tease each other with it, and try to make nests out of it. It's pretty entertaining to watch them enjoy it. They are usually organic if sold as pet grass but I always check to make sure.

Yep,
i have live trees in my birdroom and I often dump water dishes in them so seed gets in there too, Well each night I pull the little blades of grass and feed to the birds they go nuts.

And I know it ssafe cause it grew from bird seed and I use no toxic stuff in my plants and sterile dirt, yeaaaa

I've done this too Fancie Flight! Not intentially at first but the cages were above some plants and I had little seed seedlings popping up!

If you want to try it on a larger scale without the dirt try a try of orchid potting mix...keep it watered and spreckle bird seed on it. You will have some lovely sprouts for your birds!

My societies have certainly been rough on some pet grass I bought about a month and a half ago, but it's still living and growing. They've just smashed the blades down and they sit on it like a cushion. :) Now my zebras just demolish it and fling it everywhere, including nearly across the room.

Zebras seem to have the ability to fling ANYTHING the length of a room, lol

This is true. I often know when they are bathing because I get hit in the face with water, despite the fact that they are 3-5 feet away from the seating in my living room.
